In this solo adventure, I head deep into the woods to live a day like a lumberjack and woodworker. Using just my chainsaw and pickaroon, I fell 3 dead standing trees — 2 tricky ones with only one safe fall direction — cut them up, haul them down a hill, and build a lumberjack’s bed. After a hard day’s work, I cook a delicious camp dinner on a multi-fuel stove and spend a peaceful overnight in the forest. Bushcraft, chainsaw work, tree felling, camp cooking — it’s all here!

I head deep into the woods when a sudden rainstorm hits. Taking cover under a thick canopy in my poncho, I wait for the rain to stop before setting up camp. I show how to hang a hammock when there’s only one tree, set up a tarp shelter, craft wooden pliers, and grill salmon fillets. I spend a peaceful overnight in the forest until a huge tree falls at night with a sound like an explosion. The next day, I explore the jungle-like forest to find the fallen tree.

I head into the woods with my almost 3-year-old son to cut and move firewood from a slope. We cook a simple but tasty dinner, use our car as a cozy shelter, and spend the night together under the trees. Just a father and son working, playing, learning, and making memories in nature.
